Saramaccan

The Saramaccan maroons are descendants of runaway slaves brought to Suriname to work on planations. Most people consider the date of the first runaways to be 1690. The language of the Saramaccans is a Portuguese based creole language. It shares some features with two other Suriname languages, the English based Aukan and Sranan Tongo creole languages.
